Work Schedule: Primarily 8:00am to 4:30pm Monday through Friday. Alternate Tours may apply. Alternate tours include, but are not limited to, evening and weekend coverage, 10 hour shifts, 12 hour shifts, etc. Schedule flexible to meet the needs of the veteran and the VA.
The Justice Outreach Specialist is a Senior Social Worker or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist whose primary responsibilities are to provide intensive case management services, continuous quality improvement activities, evaluation/consultation, psychosocial assessments, placement services, and referrals to various community agencies for veterans who are incarcerated. The Justice Outreach Specialist is administratively responsible for clinical programming and daily operation of the program, as well as, manages data related to the program. The Justice Outreach Specialist is an integral member of the Homeless Program and works in conjunction with the Homeless Program Coordinator and the Social Work Supervisor to coordinate administrative, patient, and personnel activities for this program. The Senior Social Worker or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in this position requires an advanced level of knowledge and understanding of the services and benefits available from community, State and Federal agencies. The incumbent must have skill in diplomacy, advocacy, and negotiation in spanning boundaries of at least two large institutions, VA and corrections. Knowledge of jail culture, its impact upon veteran institutional and community perceptions and behavior, and skill in assisting the veteran and those who work with him or her in adopting behaviors adaptive to community living.
The Justice Outreach Specialist is an integral member of the Homeless Program and works in conjunction with the Homeless Program Coordinator and the Social Work Supervisor to coordinate administrative, patient, and personnel activities for this program.
BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
1. _CITIZENSHIP:_ U.S. Citizen.
2. _EDUCATION:_ AMaster's Degree in Social Work from a school of social work accredited by the Council on Social Work Education. A doctoral degree in social work_may not_ be substituted for the master's degree in social work. A Master's Degree in marriage and family therapy from a COAMFTE accredited marriage and family therapy program. A doctoral degree in marriage and family therapy may not be substituted for the master's degree in marriage and family therapy.

3. _LICENSURE:_ _Must be licensed or certified at the Master's level to independently practice social work in a state or licensed to independently practice marriage and family therapy in a state._
4. _ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY IS REQUIRED_ .Social Workers and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists must be proficient in spoken and written English.
5. _EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT_ :Experience must have been in a _healthcare clinical setting_ working with the adult population where chronic mental health/homelessness is the focus of care and case management, must have demonstrated the potential to perform assignments independently, OR a doctoral degree in social work from a school of social work may be substituted for the one ( 1 ) year of professional social work experience in a healthcare clinical setting. The same applies for Licensed marriage and Family Therapists, except they must have the doctoral degree in marriage and family therapy from a COAMFTE accredited marriage and family therapy program, which may be substitued for the one (1) year of professional marriage and family experience in a healthcare clinical setting.
6. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The work may require using appropriate methods of resources to physically restrain veterans who present a danger to self or others. The work may also require accommodating the needs of physically disabled veterans. Day-to-day work involves sitting, walking, standing and carrying light objects such as medical records.
_Healthcare Clinical Setting_ : Defined as a medical center, medical or psychiatric outpatient clinic, or a residential treatment center; healthcare clinical setting focus is with the adult population where chronic mental health/homelessness is the focus; the social work and marriage and family therapy experience demonstrates participation in collaborative treatment and identified with the medical and mental health profession.
GS-12: Senior Social Workers and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists have experience that demonstrates possession of advanced practice skills and judgment. At least two years should be in an area of specialized social work practice or marriage and family therapy. Senior social workers or marriage and family therapists must be licensed or certified by a state at the advanced practice level.
SUBSTITUTING EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE AT THE GS-12 LEVEL: Under no circumstances will the educational requirements be waived. Under no circumstances will licensure requirements be waived for grade levels GS-12- or above.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
